The impact of shift works on health of workers

Summary. Shift work, which includes extended shifts and other variable and non-standard hours, is widespread in all countries of the world. There are no statistical data on the number of employees working in shifts in Ukraine. The aim of the study – to analyze the impact of shift work on health of workers. Materials and Methods. The study looked at recent scientific publications on the Internet, including "shift work," "health," "disorders," "sleep disorders," and "quality of life." Results. A large number of studies show that shift work and night work have a negative effect on health. Such work features, for example, have been associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, metabolic disorders, sleep disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, and reproductive and mental health disorders. Other researchers have also shown that night work or irregular changes affect sleep, drowsiness and health. The main mechanisms of adverse health effects are not fully understood, but most likely they include circadian disorders that lead to neuroendocrine and cardiometabolic stress, limited and disturbed sleep, which causes changes in immune function and cellular stress. Conclusions. An analysis of the literature on the impact of changing professions on human health has shown a negative impact on the body's systems, as well as on the quality of sleep, which leads to reduced efficiency and job satisfaction. This problem requires in-depth research to identify the main risks of this category of workers and develop methods for their prevention
